Outdoor Camera Placement for Better Night Footage
Night footage quality is mostly placement and lighting, not just camera specs. Better positioning gives clearer faces and number plates with fewer false alerts.
Mount for useful detail, not maximum height
Mounting too high gives broad view but weak detail. In many homes, a moderate height with angle toward likely approach paths gives better identification.
Avoid direct light sources
- Do not point at bright porch lights.
- Avoid direct streetlight glare into the lens.
- Use side lighting where possible.
Control reflection and obstructions
Keep lenses away from reflective walls, windows and eaves that can trigger IR bounce and wash out nighttime scenes.
Set correct motion zones
Exclude moving trees and road traffic to reduce noise. Good motion zones keep alerts useful and preserve battery life on wire-free units.
Check Wi-Fi at the final mounting point
Do not assume signal is fine because your phone works nearby. Test camera link quality before final mounting.
